Recognizing the importance of Canada's 150th birthday, the City of Welland called upon citizens to form Canada's 150th in Welland Ad Hoc Committee.
Canada's 150th in Welland Ad Hoc Committee meet the second Monday of the Month at the Wellness Complex.
August 2015: Call for interested citizens to form Ad Hoc Committee for Canada's 150th Celebrations in Welland.
October 2015: First meeting of interested citizens to form committee. Discussions took place regarding the role of the committee, and initial ideas for celebrating 2017 in Welland.
November 2015: Election of Chairs, work on mission statement and terms of reference. More discussions around events, Sub-committees formed. Name established for the committee.
December 2015: Long-list of ideas and events, work started on logo for the committee, finalized mission statement.
February - May 2016: planning and discussions. Change of chairperson, and City Liaison.
June 2016: Change of venue for meetings, terms of reference, committee priorities revisited. Preparation for grants being applied for started.
July-August 2016: Terms of reference adopted. Sub-committees started putting together budgets for grant preparation, events established, preparations begin for presentation to council. Grants with August deadlines submitted.
September 2016: Presented the committee's plan to City Council on September 21st. Planned the Public Information Night for October. Received word we were one of only three Niagara municipalities to receive the Canadian Garden Council and Vesey's Bulbs Tulip Garden. Launched social media sites.
October 2016: Held Public Information Night. Received notification of Niagara Foundation Grant for our Launch on February 2nd.
